Drama of the Barking Dog

“A barking dog is often more useful than a sleeping lion.” ~ Washington Irving

The worst way to deflect negative attention is by constantly talking about it in a desperate attempt at a sympathy grab. It invites curiosity and paves the way for questions and answers from where you least expect it, possibly proving you wrong, and making things much, much worse. The barking dog will always do the sleeping lion’s dirty work for him.
